Ceiling fans have become more popular in recent years as people discover that ceiling fans are a very energy efficient way of cooling: they cool people instead of trying to cool large
volumes of air. While ceiling fans must be primarily fully functional and efficient, the range of styles, materials and colours available in ceiling fans today mean that the design, style and colour of the ceiling fan may be coordinated to suit the decor
of the room and our friendly staff will help you choose, from our
large selection of ceiling fans, a ceiling fan to suit your needs, style and decor.
In a recent article, a well known consumer magazine, Choice, tested ceiling fans available in Australia and ranked the Hunter ceiling fans highest in its various categories. Universal Fans has been supplying Hunter ceiling fans to the public since their arrival in Australia about 7 years ago. Universal Fans has most Hunter ceiling fan models on display including the Hunter Carera ceiling fan, Hunter Savoy ceiling fan, Hunter Industrie ceiling fan and an equivalent ceiling fans to the highly rated by the magazine, Hunter Vista ceiling fan. Universal Fans has recently added models from the Fanimation range of ceiling fans and models from the Emerson ceiling fans range. These ceiling fan models are designed in the USA and feature very unsual designs, for example the Punkah ceiling fan is a like a series of large "hand held" fans, the Teventi ceiling fans can be "dressed up" to give it an oriental look, an african look and many other options. There is also an extra large ceiling fan with 2m long blades ideal for larger areas. See our page on USA ceiling fans

Exhaust fans are often referred to as bathroom exhaust fans, kitchen exhaust fans, toilet exhaust fans, laundry exhaust fans etc An exhaust fan should be chosen for its effectiveness, as well as its looks. The size of the room is the most important factor when sizing an exhaust fan. The exhaust fan should have enough capacity to replace the air in the room about 10 times in one hour but this figure depends on the type of the room, particular uses, etc. It is surprising how many retailers selling exhaust fans have little idea of the air capacity of the exhaust fans they offer and what is appropriate for the client. Equally, many manufacturers supplying low cost exhaust fans only provide minimal details on the air capacity of their exhaust fans and this information is often inside the box so potential buyers are not able to judge if the exhaust fan will have adequate capacity for the room they are trying to exhaust. Building regulations only provide minimal requirements with the result that a large bathroom would not be adequately ventilated using an exhaust fan with the air capacity stipulated by the regulations. If exhaust fans are ducted out then consideration should be given to the fact that the air capacity of the exhaust fan will be affected by the lenght, size and layout of the duct used. Equally, wall vents will also affect air capacity. The location of the exhaust fan in the bathroom will also determine its effectiveness, as well as airsupply sources and other such considerations. The reader can see that choosing a bathroom fan is not a simple matter and many find that the chosen bathroom fan does not do an adequate job.
We have many models of exhaust fans that can be used as bathrooms exhaust fans. For example, the Chico exhaust fan is a great looking bathroom exhaust fan with enough capacity for a medium sized bathroom and can be mounted on the ceiling or wall. Available in white so as to blend in with white bathroom ceiling or walls, or in aluminium to complement chrome bathroom fittings. We also have bathroom exhaust fans for ceiling mounting in chrome and timber finishes to complement that special bathroom renovation, please see our pages on exhaust fans in this site.
We also have information on products associated with exhaust fans such as exhaust fan vents, exhaust fan ducting, exhaust fan speed controllers and other products.
Pedestal Fan and Wall fan information is catered for under the pedestal fan page. There is information here on our Pedestal fan Commercial range and Wall fan commercial range. As well as technical information on our pedestal fan models and wall fan models, there is also air coverage diagrams for our commercial pedestal fan and wall fan models. There is also a page on our domestic pedestal fan range and our domestic pedestal fan range, wall fan models and desk fan models. We will in the future add pages for information on exhaust fans, information on ceiling fans and information on pedestal fans and wall fans.
Note that many people use the term cooling fans to refer to a cooling fan which could be a commercial pedestal fans or commercial wall fan. These cooling fans are used in gyms, halls, factories and the like to cool down people. The cooling fans blow produce very large amounts of air reaching 10 meters or more and so are ideal for larger areas, for example in a gym or factory they can be directed to the people exercising or working thus cooling them down. These cooling fans(they can be pedestal fans or wall fans) produce much more air than a ceiling fan by rotating very fast with the consequent increase in noise. This is fine in noisy environments where these pedestal fans are wall fans are more efficient then ceiling fans.
Ceiling fans are more useful where noise considerations are important. Ceiling fans (or ceiling fan) have much longer blades (typically 130 to 140 cm in diameter) than Pedestal fans or Wall fans and run much more slowly thereby producing less noise. Cooling fans (Pedestal fans and Wall fans) have shorter blades (from 50 to 75 cms) and the fans rotate very quickly thereby producing much more noise. Choose the appropriate cooling fan: ceiling fan, pedestal fan or wall fan according to noise and air movement requirement. In some cases a combination of ceiling fans and pedestal fans or wall fans may be best and a hall for example, may use ceiling fans when fewer people use the hall and use commercial pedestal fans or wall fans when large numbers of people are in the hall, creating a noisy environment and requiring the large volumes of air that ceiling fans cannot produce so efficiently.
We will also have accessories for pedestal fans and wall fans such as pedestal fan speed controllers and wall fan speed controllers.
